Itinerary in Detail

Day Itinerary

The Roots of an Empire:

Tikal & Petén

1

Your journey begins in the lush northern jungles of Petén with a sunrise flight from Guatemala City. You’ll step into the heart of ancient Maya civilization as you explore the towering temples of Tikal. Guided by local experts, you’ll walk through ruins once inhabited by astronomers, artists, and leaders, witnessing how nature has reabsorbed history. Evenings invite group reflections under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

The Many Stories of

Guatemala City

2

Upon returning to the capital, your lens on history broadens. A visit to an archaeological museum expands your understanding beyond the lowland Maya, showcasing artifacts from diverse civilizations that shaped the region. You'll dine at a Garífuna restaurant, savoring Afro-Indigenous cuisine while learning about their culture’s deep Caribbean roots. This brief but meaningful stop adds texture to Guatemala’s complex story.

Memory & Resistance:

Tecpán & Comalapa

3

Traveling west, you’ll explore powerful murals, where artistic memorials bear witness to Guatemala’s civil war and the communities who survived it. A guided walk through “Paisajes de la Memoria” provides a respectful space for understanding the impact of violence and the role of art in collective healing.

Sacred Waters:

Lake Atitlán

4

Settle into the tranquil rhythm of Lake Atitlán, surrounded by volcanoes and tradition-rich villages. You’ll take part in Maya cooking, paint your Nahual (birth sign), and engage in a guided spiritual ceremony with an aj k'ij. Days are filled with co-op visits, ancestral meals, and temazcal therapy. This leg of the trip is a deep immersion in daily life, ancestral wisdom, and community.

Tradition in Motion:

Chichicastenango

5

On your way to Antigua, we’ll stop at the famous market of Chichicastenango. Amid vibrant stalls and centuries-old rituals, you'll experience how spirituality, commerce, and identity intersect. A special meal led by Indigenous women offers a powerful and delicious insight into cultural preservation through cuisine.

A Conscious Close:

Antigua

6

Antigua is more than its iconic cobblestone streets—it’s a place where history meets action. In this final leg of the journey, you’ll visit a working coffee farm outside the city to learn about Guatemala’s coffee industry and how small farmers producers are reclaiming agency once again. You’ll also take part in a jade workshop focused on ethical sourcing and the future of this traditional trade. A weaving workshop in nearby San Antonio Aguas Calientes will deepen your understanding of Maya design and storytelling. And as we wind down, we’ll raise a glass during a cocktail-making class and celebrate like our abuelitos once did—with marimba music, dance, and joy.
